A woman in traditional Heian period dress at Daikakuji temple in Kyoto. I was lucky enough to land there on the day some sort of historical society was having an event, and the place was full of women in the many layered gowns of the Japanese aristocracy about 1000 years ago.

Go for it! But figure out something lighter. Traditional Heian garb weighs a ton aparantly

I made just a plain white kosode and patterned uchikake for a recent SCA event - two or three layers are plenty for now!
